Men and laundry

On Friday, after work, I went to a local laundromat to get my laundry done before the big Red Wings game. Boring right? I thought so, but it needed to be done.

I brought my Ipod and was chilling to music. To my amusement, a woman that worked at the laundromat was helping a guy in his late 40s or 50s with his laundry. I thought at first there was a problem with the machine. Nope, nada, he just had no clue.

I found out later since they moved to the dryers that this was the FIRST time he's done laundry, by himself. He makes the egotistical statement that his woman or a woman does it for him so he's never had to do it.

I was thinking "Really, whoever she is, I feel sorry for her..." He's got a huge potbelly, no manners, and a twang that was totally extreme. (And I love that Southern twang.) He was such a chauvinistic pig, it amazed me.

He continues to put himself in the hole by stating that he had worked all day and that someone else should be doing his laundry for him. UGH! The woman working in the laundromat just said "Whine whine whine" and asked the few ladies that were around there, including me, whether or not we had worked that day. And duh, we all had! He then proceeds to say all he wanted to do was go home and have someone just do his laundry for him.

He also couldn't figure out how to start the dryer, making me chuckle, since he was pressing the light and not the "START" button. And the thing that totally got to me, the guy then asks me later, while I was folding my laundry and still listening to my IPOD...

Guy: You do laundry often?
Me: Yes
Guy: Your own laundry...
Me: Uhm...yes
Guy: You want to do my laundry...
Me: Uhm...NO!
Guy: I'll pay you...
Me: Still NO, that's quite alright!
Guy:Oh well, I thought I'd offer!

*Smacks head* Uh huh, like I'm going to take that offer! From a creepy pig!

All I have to say is that my future "Mr. Right" better know how to do laundry. I'm not into the traditional gender roles bit, and definitely not into the "Me man, you woman, you cook, clean, etc, I bring home food." We better be sharing those roles somewhat even if it's a little unequal, I don't mind.

How do you feel about traditional gender roles?

Not buying traditional gender roles. Not buying it. I cant cook at all, men who can cook can win me so easily lol

In my house growing up, my dad always did the laundry. Actually, my mom still doesn't know how.

This guy has some nerve, though. How are you supposed to respond? "Yes, I'd love to do your laundry!" That sense of entitlement that someone should be fulfilling your chores for you is just ridiculous.

I don't understand how a person can go 40-50 years and never had to do laundry once. Are you kidding me right now? I can't believe that he had the nerve to ask you to do his...wtf!!!

Wow thats such a story! Eww I cant believe he offered to pay you!

And its not like laundry is that complicated either, seriously he should just suck it up and stop complaining

Well as far as laundry goes I personally don't let my husband do any - he asks too many questions because he is scared to screw it up! But he knows how if he has to! But don't worry - he vaccuums and cooks for me!

@Mara
I was galled that he replied with the "I thought I'd offer", like it was a favor to me.

@Kym
He was just a pig, that's all I have as a reason.

Laugh!

Every child in my family had a chore to do growing up - mine was ironing my dad's business clothes. I really don't mind doing laundry, because I find mindless washing and folding oddly theraputic, and it reminds me pleasantly of childhood.

But for a clueless egotist? Not a chance! :)

I should have been born a man. I never had to do laundry until the past year. I mean, I would sometimes start the laundry...but someone else always finished it...and my mom always did it..consequently I don't really *know* how to do laundry and I ruin more things than I don't....

My future husband? He can do the laundry and clean the bathroom (he can do the dishes too, I wont mind). I'll do everything else...yard work, cooking, vacuuming, bringing home the bacon. I got that covered. Laundry and toilets? NOT my thing.

there's a limit to the traditional gender roles and i believe in equality :D kiss my ass if a guy's not suppose to help around.
