I hate bacteria...

Contamination in biology based experiments ruin everything. Just for ease of typing, let's call my research an all encompassing term like KIWI. So from here on out (and all future posts), my research will be known as KIWI.

Bear with me, but I needed to vent/rant somewhere before I literally lose my mind. Short summary of my meltdown with the stupid experiment.

We checked on the success of the KIWI for almost 3 hours yesterday morning using microscopy. So now on top of other problems that we were having previously with KIWI, we now have a new issue that's developed from our last round of experiments. Contamination of the KIWI, imagine moldy fungus or yucky bacterial cultures. Basically we had resigned ourselves to the fact that we had to use a modified KIWI, modified troubleshooting commences, and then we get this contaminated KIWI.

I am ready to shoot someone or QUIT, I don't know how much more I can take. Almost a year of troubleshooting, and I thought we were going to get something usable this round, and then the contamination of the KIWI occurs.

I just WANT to graduate! Why can't I? What's wrong with me? Am I stupid? It makes it even worse when your department secretary sends out another announcement of another fellow student's defense from your year! Ugh.....

Maisy, BlackTulip, KekeLynn, girl in stiletto, and Amy-Thank you all for your comments and encouragement. It's very much appreciated, especially when you feel like you're all alone in the research funk of things not working and not being able to graduate after nth years in grad school.
