My craving for...

Tiramisu leads to me making it this past weekend!

So unbelievably yummy that I thought I would share it with you guys if you are so inclined to throw your healthy foody lifestyle away for the day. Let me know what you think if you do try the recipe...It's actually modified from a recipe that I found off the back of a ladyfingers package. I reduced the sugar though...it's sweet enough!

Tiramisu
* 5 egg yolks
* 3/4 cup sugar
* 8 ounces mascarpone
* 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
* 2 (3 ounce) packages ladyfingers (soft)
* 1 teaspoon brandy flavoring (or real brandy)
* 2 teaspoons instant espresso
* 1/3 cup hot water
* cocoa powder (to dust on top)

  1. In a heat resistant bowl, beat egg yolks and sugar until it has thickened.
  2. In a pot, boil water, and place the bowl with egg yolks/sugar on top (acts as a double boiler). Put on low heat, and cook eggs 8-10 min stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
  3. Add in the mascarpone and beat together. After it cools, can be placed in fridge temporarily to cool down.
  4. In another bowl, whip cream until stiff. Fold in the cooled egg/cheese/sugar mixture.
  5. In a bowl, mix brandy, hot water, and instant expresso together.
  6. Line the bottom of a container (9X13) with ladyfingers. Drench/drizzle with coffee mixture.
  7. Put in half of the egg/cream/cheese mixture onto the ladyfingers.
  8. Place the rest of the ladyfingers on top of the cream mixture. Again drizzle/drench the ladyfingers with coffee.
  9. Place the rest of the egg/cream/cheese mixture on top.
  10. Dust the top with cocoa powder according to taste.
  11. Cover and place in fridge overnight. (Tastes better overnight).

This looks awesome! I will have to try to find some time to try it out. I've never tried to make tiramisu...was it difficult?

Children of the nineties: The recipe that I've modified wasn't bad at all! The first few times I made it was harder since I didn't have a mixer so I was attempting to whip cream by hand (*SMACKS self*) since I didn't have a mixer. The last few times, things have gone swimmingly. It's been a hit with my family and with friends. My friend who hates eggs even said she liked it.

Maisy: You should definitely try it, coffee/alcohol/cocoa...yum yum. If you want, try it at a local restaurant! :)

Novelista Barista: I never categorize desserts as cooking! :) It's more baking although this recipe doesn't require "cooking" really. Just a "double boiler" for the eggs and that's it. The rest is just a lot of mixing! ;)

BlackTulip: You can make it today instead! ;) If you want to make it taste better, wait overnight before eating it. I tend to make this late in the evening anyways. Curbs my urge to sneak a taste or two since it's not done absorbing all the coffee/alcohol flavor!
