The beginning of the job search

Hey y'all!

So I've decided to start posting about my job search. I've reached the point in my nth year of graduate school that I just need to motivation of a date or a miracle deadline so to speak.

Can I just say, I'm already overwhelmed! Up until now, I haven't really networked in the real sense of the term. I have friends that are in the field, but at no time did I really go out there to meet people so that I would have avenues later. I should have, but due to my shyness, and being overwhelmed sometimes at conferences, I never really got around to it.

It makes things a little harder, but this is one of those times that I really truly appreciate the kind nature of friends/friend-acquaintances.

A couple friends have already offered to spread my resume around to see who snaps. This weekend will be spent researching a company that I have a "phone" prescreen interview with and researching/applying to jobs at 2 other companies. Hopefully I make some headway on that...

I hope to keep you all posted about future prospects...especially for someone who has spent over a quarter of a century in academics. There's the overwhelming feeling of inadequacy when you try to breech over into industry, especially for someone like myself...no industry experience at all.

Anyway, need to get back to work! Have a good weekend!

Hope everything goes well, with a recession and all, hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones.

I hope so too! I'm going to hope for the best! But I am really thankful to all my friends who have offered to "connect" me to companies. Now I just have to take advantage of those offers to make something happen.
