Nope...not really just a temporary lull before the storm. :P
So a quick story before the real purpose of this post since I'm way overdue for a new poll! *grins sheepishly*
Last night was the first night in about a week that I went to bed at a relatively decent time (i.e. around midnight) since I'd been up working late on manuscript revisions which are finally done! (YAY me! and makes me want to dance for joy...kinda :P)
I wake up suddenly in the middle of the night...wondering what the heck woke me...I realize with a start...the dogs are barking. If you've missed the post, my new roomie has housepets, namely dogs amongst other things. Anyway, so far things have been relatively ok, no big problems, etc. UNTIL last night...
Barking barking, some howling, etc woke me up around 3 am and then was off and on for probably the next hour or so. OH MY! I thought I was going to go crazy. The dogs were in her room so I'm still not quite sure how she could have missed the racket but she said she's a deep sleeper. I even tried knocking on the door which only exacerbated the barking...I finally went back to my bed and tried to plug my ear as best I could.
I hope this is not a recurring thing because I can see my sanity flying out of my window faster than a speeding bullet.
Cross your fingers for me peeps! I'm gonna need it once I start writing my thesis and this is what happens in the middle of the night.
Anyways the real purpose is to post a new poll! Please vote in the poll to your right.
Poll results
Do you blog... (14 votes)
Anonymously 35%
Semi-anonymously 42%
Publicly 21%
So my new question for any of you who are still interested in this poll is: How do you define semi-anonymity? As in you post pics but no names, or a select few know that you have blog, or someone found out who you "are" but never told others...?
I actually blog anonymously, no names, no photos, and hopefully no identifying characteristics. At least I hope not, I'm sure someone who suspects and actually goes to this site would figure it out since there are a few stories that could totally identify me. I try not to blog when I'm at work. And obviously hope to keep this from my housemate as well.
I prefer this because I can write whatever I want, whenever I want (for the most part). No need to hold any frustration in, which I tend to do...When I actually "act out" IRL, it means that things have hit the fan, so to speak, which actually has been happening more often since the stress from graduate school is getting to me. Anyway...point being, it's nice not to have to hold back.
Why do you blog the way you do?

It depends on how much you want people to know about you personally.
I write about things I love, hate, annoys me, shits me etc.
I don't mention my bday, I'm a different age everywhere online. I don't mention people's names, or particular stores that are only in my state, I haven't mentioned where I live.
For me, it's the whole air of mystery.
And so no one stalks me in real life. If they don't know, they can't find :)
On top of that, I agree with what you said in your last two paragraphs, that's why alot of us do it.
I blog semi-anonymously. I let my close friends and family know about the blog so they can keep up with me, but I haven't announced it to anybody in my research/school life (in case I want to write about them!). But I'm still cautious - I blog as if everybody could find out who I was, because I suspect smart people out there probably could. I don't use names because I don't want it to come up in a Google search, or be obvious at first glance.
So basically, I don't want the man-on-the-street to see who I am on page 1, but I don't mind if people figure it out, and I definitely want my friends and family to be able to stay connected.
@Jewels Diva
That's the way to stay safe! :) And to let it all hang out...
@Miss Outlier
That's cool! Yeah, research/lab people I'm trying to avoid since I blog about my coworkers sometimes...or my boss...I'd prefer no one I know IRL finding out though. Makes things easier! Since I don't really let it all hang out too often in real life!
What a good question. I would say I blog semi-anonymously, because I don't use my name but some of my friends know about and read my blog. I try not to associate my name with it, though. Even though I don't necessarily blog about personal things, I wouldn't love my boss reading it...I'm sure he'd get suspicious that I occasionally blog at work!
I'm pretty open about my blog, I guess. Real links, access to my music more infos about me and stuff but I guess since I do that there are certain things I censor. I only release it in my private blog lol
I'm semi-anonymous. The reason being is that I don't want anything I write to get me fired and I also don't want anyone I have dated in the past to come across my name and see the things I may have written about them. I'm not out to hurt anyone- this is for me and now my blog audience. But I do post pictures and I'm completely honest in everything I write.
@Mara
Totally understand that feeling, I try to avoid going to the website when I'm at work...sometimes I just can't resist though.
@Andhari
You have an awesome blog my dear! :) I blog anonymously so that I won't have to censor things though...since I do that enough in real life.
@Lola Lakely
Know that feeling! I'm completely honest about what I feel too, I just don't want anyone finding out it's me, because there are just some things that I have to vent about that I can't vent about in front of friends.
